Exploring the Antarctic Circumpolar Current
Unlike all other oceans in the world, the Southern Ocean is not limited by continents; it is an ocean in motion through which a current called the Antarctic Circumpolar Current
flows from west to east around Antarctica..
It is a major player in the climate
, and is still fairly unknown
because of its remoteness, its isolation from the traditional sailing zones, the high cost and therefore the scarcity of oceanographic campaigns. So there are great expectations among the scientific community
The POLAR POD
, just like a satellite around Antarctica, will allow the acquisition of data and observations over the long term that will be forwarded to the researchers, oceanographers and climatologists... involved in the project.
Sharing the expedition in real time through image, sound and speech will be part of a major international educational Life Science project.
